about
Why We Do This

At Meaningful OT, we believe that understanding comes before change. Whether we're in a staffroom talking to teachers about sensory processing, in a community hall speaking with parents about anxiety, or delivering a keynote on ADHD to an organisation, our starting point is always the same: behaviour makes sense in context. When we understand why a child struggles to sit still, why a teenager shuts down under pressure, or why an adult feels overwhelmed by everyday demands, we stop trying to fix the person and start changing the environment around them. That shift — from individual blame to systemic understanding — is at the heart of everything we teach.
Our schools programmes exist because classrooms weren't built with every nervous system in mind. We work with primary and secondary schools to help staff understand sensory processing, regulation, and the practical, low-cost changes that make classrooms work better for every student — not just those with a diagnosis. Teachers don't need to become therapists; they need the right lens and a handful of tools they can use immediately. That's what we deliver.
Trauma-informed practice runs through our workshops too. Many of the young people, families, and professionals we meet have lived through experiences that shape how they respond to stress, relationships, and everyday challenges. Our training helps organisations and individuals recognise the signs of trauma responses and respond with curiosity instead of correction — because punishing a survival response never taught anyone to feel safe.
We also work directly with parents, because parenting a child with additional needs — sensory, emotional, or developmental — can be isolating, and most parents are given diagnoses without direction. Our private parent workshops fill that gap with practical, honest, judgement-free guidance grounded in real clinical experience.
And underneath all of it sit our wellness workshops — sessions built around a simple idea: mental health isn't a crisis response, it's a daily practice. We talk about living life more fully, not just managing symptoms or getting through the week. Whether we're speaking to a corporate team, a community group, or a room of parents, we bring the same clinical grounding and the same belief: people don't need to be fixed. They need to be understood, equipped, and supported in the right environment. That's the work — and it's why we keep showing up to do it.

Padraig
Clinical Specialist
Padraig, our Clinical Specialist, began his career in healthcare with a BA in Social Care from MTU. He worked as a Social Care Worker in residential homes, supporting children from birth to adulthood.
Over his 14 years of professional experience, Padraig has worked with teenagers facing a variety of challenges, including complex trauma, ASD, ADHD, self-harm, and suicidal ideation.
In his role as a Family Support Worker, Padraig focused on parenting assessments with a strong emphasis on infant mental health and practical parenting skills. He mentors young people through the Big Brother program with Foróige, using a trauma-informed approach.
Padraig pursued further education while balancing a full-time career and fatherhood, earning a BSc in Occupational Therapy from University College Cork. Recognising the need for a strengths- and values-based approach in social care, he advanced his studies with a Master’s in Positive and Coaching Psychology, also at University College Cork.
Today, Padraig runs his private practice, The OT Coach, where he offers therapeutic interventions and assessments for young people and adults who have experienced adversity. His specialties include trauma, sensory-attachment, positive psychology, and coaching, making him a trusted professional dedicated to fostering resilience and well-being.

Jane is the person ensuring every one of our clients' needs is met to the highest and most efficient standard, bringing a wealth of skill and genuine care to everything she touches.
But what truly sets her apart is that she lives by the same values we ask of every member of our team: a deep understanding of relationships, connection, and the therapeutic journey itself. She helps us facilitate the very passions our clients hold, or may have lost along the way, with the same care and dedication she brings to her own life. We are so grateful to have her.
